Here are some of the most notable script sales from January 2021.
– Paramount Pictures and Bad Robot (J. J. Abrams’ production company) have tapped Joe Barton to script another sequel to Cloverfield.
– Misha Green will write and direct the next installment in MGM’s rebooted Tomb Raider franchise, with Alicia Vikander reprising the eponymous role.
– A24, Scott Rudin Productions, and DNA Films will produce writer/director Alex Garland’s next film Men. Jessie Buckley and Rory Kinnear will possibly star.
– Henry Joost, Ariel Schulman, and Josh Koenigsberg will write Secret Headquarters for Paramount Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films based on an original idea from Christopher Yost. Jost and Schulman will direct.
– SF Studios has picked up Maria Karlsson’s historical drama The Stockholm Bloodbath.
– Dirty Films (Cate Blanchett) has acquired the romantic drama Fingernails, written by Christos Nikou, Sam Steiner, and Stavros Raptis. Nikou will also produce and direct, and Carey Mulligan will star.
– LightWorkers Media has picked up Brian Egeston’s faith drama On a Wing and a Prayer. Sean McNamara will direct, and Dennis Quaid will star.
– Paramount Animation, Day Zero Productions, and Mainstay Entertainment have acquired an untitled animated comedy written by Jonathan Groff and Jon Pollack and based on an idea by Trevor Noah.
– A24 and Scott Rudin Productions have acquired Showing Up, written by Kelly Reichardt and Jonathan Raymond. Michelle Williams is attached to star.
– Invisible Narratives has picked up The Nanny, a comedy written by Katy Colloton and Katie O’Brien.
– Writer/director Robert Rodriguez will reboot his Spy Kids franchise for Skydance and Spyglass Media Group.
– Invincible Group will produce Remember Me: The Mahalia Jackson Story, written by Ericka Nicole Malone and based on the true story. Denise Dowse will direct.
– Screen Gems and Ground Control has picked up Harrison Query and Tommy Wallach’s thriller spec Delilah.
– Searchlight Pictures has acquired Lisa Duva’s horror/comedy The Hound. Zoey Deutch will produce and star.
– Michael Waldron will write an untitled Star Wars movie for Walt Disney Pictures and Lucasfilm. Kevin Feige will produce.
– Producer Katja Adomeit (Force Majeure, The Square) will produce a series of films through her company Adomeit Film: Breathe, a mystery/thriller, and The Last Mermaid, a romance/fantasy, both to be written and directed by Daniel Borgman; Fall of Man, a western/drama to be written by Illum Jacobi and Hans Frederik Jakobsen and directed by Jacobi; and Kabul Jan, a romantic comedy to be based on the biography by Anwar Hashimi and written and directed by Shahrbanoo Sadat.
