Here are some of the most notable script sales from August 2022.
- Writer/director duo Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck are making Freaky Tales, a 1987-set love letter to Oakland, CA, for Entertainment One Films and MACRO.
- A24 and Square Peg (Ari Aster) are teaming up for Dream Scenario, a comedy written by Kristoffer Borgli. Borgli will direct, and Nicolas Cage is in talks to star.
- Lance Bass Productions is producing an as-of-now untitled movie about Bass’s relationship with Boy Meets World’s Danielle Fishel. Lauren Lapkus and Marie Holland will write the script.
- Writer Michael Green will adapt BioShock for Vertigo Entertainment and about:blank. Francis Lawrence will produce and direct. The original game was published by 2K Games and written and directed by Ken Levine.
- SISTER and Circle of Confusion Productions will produce Taylor Jenkins Reid and Ashley Rodgers’ untitled comedy. Kay Cannon will produce and direct.
- Oren Uziel will script the newest adaptation of the board game Clue for Twentieth Century, Maximum Effort (Ryan Reynolds), and Entertainment One. James Bobin is attached to direct. The game was created by Anthony E. Pratt and published by Hasbro in 1949. The game was previously adapted into a movie in 1985 with writer/director Jonathan Lynn.
- PlayStation Productions and Scott Free Productions (Ridley Scott) will adapt the 2012 PlayStation Vita video game Gravity Rush. Emily Jerome will provide the script, and Anna Mastro will direct. The original game was developed by Japan Studio’s Project Siren, directed by Keiichiro Toyama, and written by Toyama and Naoko Sato.
- And another PlayStation game is getting an adaptation: Days Gone. Sheldon Turner will write the script. The original game was developed by Bend Studios, directed by John Garvin and Jeff Ross, and written by Garvin.
- Over at Paramount, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off will get a spinoff in the form of Sam and Victor’s Day Off. Bill Posley’s script will follow the valets who take Cameron’s dad’s Ferrari for a joyride. The original film was written and directed by John Hughes.
- Thunder Road Pictures has optioned the supernatural spy thriller Enigma written by Kat Wood, who will also exec produce.
- Searchlight, 3 Arts, Seven Deuce Entertainment, and Freestyle Picture Company are teaming up for Suncoast, which will be written and directed by Laura Chinn. Laura Linney, Woody Harrelson, and Nico Parker will star.
- Kieran Mulroney and Michele Mulroney will write a script based on Disney’s amusement park ride Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. LuckyChap Entertainment and Scott Free Productions are all aboard to produce. Bert & Bertie are in talks to direct. The ride was originally designed by Imagineer Tony Baxter and ride design engineer Bill Watkins.
- Warner Bros. and Winkler Films are making Wise Guys. Barry Levinson will direct from Nicholas Pileggi’s script, and Robert De Niro will star.
- Mishna Wolff will write the adaptation of Mrs. K for Universal, 87North, and Paperheart Ltd. The original Malaysian-Hong Kong film was written by Chan Wai-keung and Ho Yuhang and directed by Ho.
- Screen Gems and Crooked Highway will produce writer/directors Brett Pierce and Drew Pierce’s horror/thriller Room 428. Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill will produce.
- Paramount Players, Broken Road Productions, and Camp Sugar will produce the sports comedy Double Fault, based on a pitch from Jim Kehoe and Brian Kehoe. Rebel Wilson will produce and star.
