Here are some of the most notable script sales from July 2022.
- Blueprint Pictures has picked up screenwriter Debbie Horsfield’s untitled #WagathaChristie project, based on the feud between footballers’ wives Coleen Rooney and Rebekah Vardy.
- Paramount, Weed Road Pictures, and Tradecraft are teaming up for the action film Stray, written by Derek Kolstad. Kyle Allen will exec produce and star.
- Southpaw Entertainment will produce the neo-western A Town Called Consequence from writer Chuck Hustmyre.
- Meridian Pictures picked up Vadim Perelman and Andrii Khokholkin’s script The Last Executioner, based on the life of Royal Executioner of Paris Henri-Clément Sanson. Perelman will direct.
- David Coggeshall will write the script for Skydance and Mattel’s live-action Matchbox movie, based on the Matchbox car toys created by Jack Odell in 1953.
- Paramount Pictures, A Seed & Wings Productions (Storm Reid), and Nina Holiday Entertainment will produce the coming-of-age dramedy Becoming Noble, written by Nneka Gerstle. Reid will also star.
- Brick Lane Pictures, Oops Doughnuts Productions, Convoke Media, Film Roman, and Kranzmedia are teaming up for My Dad’s a Famous Movie Star, a dramedy written by Andy Fickman (who will also direct) and Kristen Gura Fickman.
- Lionsgate and Megamix have picked up the musical drama script Sailing from writers Chris D’Arienzo and Jeremy Player. D’Arienzo will also direct, and Woody Harrelson is set to produce and also star.
- Lionsgate and Thunder Road Pictures have tapped Emerald Fennell for rewrite duties on Ballerina. The script was originally a spec by Shay Hatten before becoming a spinoff of the John Wick films. Len Wiseman will direct, and Ana de Armas will star.
- MGM is moving forward with Drago. Robert Lawton has been tapped to provide the script. The film is a sequel/spinoff of Rocky (written by Sylvester Stallone) and Creed (screenplay by Ryan Coogler & Aaron Covington, story by Coogler). Ivan Drago (played by Dolph Lundgren) first appeared in Rocky IV (written by Stallone) and the character’s son Viktor (Florian Munteanu) first appeared in Creed II (screenplay by Juel Taylor and Stallone, story by Sascha Penn and Cheo Hodari Coker). And that is this month’s comprehensive history of the Rocky/Creed franchise’s writing credits!
- Lilo and Stitch is getting a live-action remake with Disney and Rideback. Chris Kekaniokalani Bright will write the script, and Dean Fleischer Camp will direct. Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois wrote and directed the original animated film.
