Here are some of the most notable script sales from June 2020:
– Searchlight Pictures has picked up Stefani Robinson’s pitch Black Mozart, based on the true story of Chevalier de Sant-Georges. Stephen Williams is attached to direct.
– Lionsgate, Good Fear, and Mangata have picked up Stephen Herman’s horror spec The Culling. David F. Sandberg is attached to direct.
– Thunder Road Pictures picked up Doug Simon’s 2019 Black List script Breathe, a sci-fi/thriller.
– Will Packer Productions and Universal Pictures have acquired One and Done, written by Chad Sanders and Chris Spencer. The sports drama script follows a top high school athlete who decided to attend an HBCU.
– Brendan O’Brien has been tapped to script the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot for Nickelodeon Animation and Point Grey Pictures.
– Christina Hodson will script the next entry in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise for Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films. Margot Robbie in talks to star.
– The Safran Company and New Line Cinema are teaming up for The Come Up. Michael Starrbury’s script (based on an idea by Jermaine Fowler) is described as Friday meets Ocean’s 11. Matthew A. Cherry will direct while Jermaine Fowler, Lil Rel Howery, Keith Lucas and Kenneth Lucas will star.
– Rocket Science and Brace Cove Productions have acquired the drama Bum’s Rush by C. Gaby Mitchell. Anne Hathaway and Bill Murray are attached, Robert Duvall is in talks, and Aaron Schneider will direct.
– Universal and Metronome Film Company have acquired the sci-fi/thriller Atlantis by Dante Harper, based on a story by Colin Trevorrow and Matt Charman. Trevorrow will also produce and direct.
– Walt Disney Animation is moving forward on an untitled, animated Lin-Manuel Miranda project, written by Lin-Manuel Miranda (naturally) and Jared Bush. Bush Howard and Byron Howard will direct.
– Universal Pictures and Broadway Video are moving forward with the comedy Worst Man written by Matthew Bass, Theodore Bressman, and Colin Jost. Lorne Michaels will produce, Jost and Pete Davidson will star.
– Over at Hyde Park Entertainment, Kevin Willmott will script a biopic based on the life of legendary tennis player Arthur Ashe.
– Parker Finn will write/direct/adapt his 2020 short film Laura Hasn’t Slept for Paramount Pictures and Temple Hill Productions.
– And in Evil Dead news: Lee Cronin will script/direct a sequel to 1992’s Army of Darkness for Magnolia Entertainment and Renaissance Pictures. Perennial Evil Dead producers Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert are on board to produce.
