UPDATE: Script Pipeline Writer Success Stories

Some major success stories this past month on writers discovered through Script Pipeline's competitions:

Evan Daugherty - Screenwriting Competition Winner

Script Pipeline Screenwriting Competition winner Evan Daugherty (Snow White and the Huntsman) has been hired to adapt the DC comic franchise Midnight Mass. for NBC. Daugherty will also co-executive produce.

After winning the 2008 contest, Daugherty was linked up with management by Script Pipeline Executive Director Chad Clough. In 2010, he sold Snow White to Universal for $3 million, and his Script Pipeline Grand Prize screenplay Killing Season starring Robert De Niro will be released in 2013.

NBC - Writers on the Verge

Ben Yip - TV Writing Competition Finalist

Finalist of the 2011 Script Pipeline TV Writing Competition, Ben Yip was one of eight writers accepted into the NBC "Writers on the Verge" program. Ben placed in the top ten of the contest with two scripts--a Mad Men spec and an original pilot, Pulling Strings. He later found representation with Pipeline industry partner Andrew Kersey (Kersey Management).

Shane Free - Great Movie Idea Competition Winner

After winning the first Script Pipeline Great Movie Idea Competition, Shane Free was linked with an A-list producer, and the concept, a comedy in the vein of Meet the Parents and Bridesmaids, is currently being developed. Details are being kept under wraps until the project is set up.

Script Sales - October

          David Guggenheim

Huge month for script sales. Danny DeVito producing (and with a little luck, starring) in the comedy Honeymoon with Dad. Title self-explanatory. Based on the graphic novel, Benderspink producing the action/thriller Langley High, as well as the rather cool-sounding Foretold about a man sent through time to overthrow a future, evil version of himself. Nia Vardalos is back on the rom-com--scratch that: anti-rom-com--trail with Leftovers. The spirit of The Magnificent Seven + Adam Sandler = Ridiculous 6. Perhaps a Three Amigos for the 21st century, and if so, bravo, Mr. Sandler.

Other script sales include:

- Elijah Wood starring in and producing Cooties, a horror about elementary school students turning into "mass savages". . . . A very realistic horror, indeed.

- Because the world needs a Scarface without a dated, albeit classic, 80s montage, Universal will reboot the crime/drama.

- The doctor is in: development is underway for a feature-length Peanuts movie.

- Sequels for The Hunger Games are (obviously) in the pipeline as well.
