Born and raised in Los Angeles, Michael Amir Bina grew up with immigrant parents from Iran who loved taking him to the movies. Seeking to explore this interest further, Michael pursued an internship during his senior year of high school at Women In Film, where he witnessed the profound effects that film could have on people, especially in highlighting the stories of women and minorities. After graduating from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts with a degree in Dramatic Writing, he returned to LA to pursue his filmmaking career. Michael’s work focuses on identity, particularly the intersections of family, religion, and culture within Middle Eastern and queer communities. He has earned recognition as a writer, director, and producer for his work, including being named a Semifinalist in the Academy Nicholl Fellowship and receiving honors from the Producers Guild of America for his short film. Michael currently resides in Los Angeles, where he balances his writing career while mentoring the next generation of storytellers and scholars as a private tutor and college admissions counselor.
