Alina Amir

Grease Kitchen

2026 TV Writing Contest - Quarterfinalist

Alina Amir is a Pakistani-American TV writer (much to the dismay of her engineer parents). She writes sharp-tongued South Asian women who thrive in the morally gray and use lies to chase their dreams or appease their families.
Once upon a time, Alina believed she was destined for life as a lawyer. She majored in History and Middle Eastern studies at NYU before attending Brooklyn Law School’s accelerated J.D. program. There, she focused on bankruptcy law while interning for two judges. After passing the bar, she worked as a copywriter for five years for finance, real estate, and online businesses. .

She has completed an MFA in Screenwriting (TV Track) from UCLA, where she was awarded the Ron A. Baham Memorial Fellowship in Comedy and the John H. and Patricia W. Mitchell Fellowship. In addition, she is a Cinestory TV Fellow (May 2026) and a member of Roadmap’s Top Tier Career Writer Program. Her pilots have placed in Script Pipeline, Scriptation’s Showcase, and Final Draft’s Big Break.

Alina has worked at several production companies including SK Global, Muse Entertainment, and Toluca Pictures, primarily in script coverage to evaluate film and television projects for their market potential and series longevity.

Despite bringing home a born-and-bred Pakistani husband, Alina continues to disappoint her parents with questions about God’s sexism and lack of offspring. She offsets the stress with her love for Pilates, heartbreaking fantasy romance novels, and adrenaline-pumping escape rooms. She lives in Los Angeles with her husband and opinionated orange tabby.
