Carsen Smith is a screenwriter, comedian, and former zookeeper (yes, really) from Jacksonville, FL. After growing up poor as a queer kid in the Deep South, she is now understandably a dark comedy and horror/thriller writer. She’s contributed segments to truTV’s Impractical Jokers, headlines for Reductress, sketches for the Upright Citizens Brigade, and participated in The Onion’s 2023 Satire Workshop. Her absurd and often shocking scripts feature women and LGBTQ+ characters trapped in nightmarish, high-stakes situations—which surely has nothing to do with her own upbringing. With support from the Alliance for Women in Media, Carsen earned her MFA in Screenwriting at Columbia University in 2025. As a performer, she’s appeared at the New York Comedy Festival, San Francisco Sketchfest, and on stages across the country. A proud graduate of the 2024 WGA Support Staff Training Program, she once made Alex Trebek laugh as a contestant on Jeopardy!. Since then, she's written novels for Penguin Random House and escaped to Brooklyn, NY, where she lives with her two idiot cats and her very smart partner.
