
Ella Godfrey is a British playwright and screenwriter based in London. She writes propulsive and witty women-led dramas that play with genre to ask big questions about the world today. Horror, Romance and Historical Drama are her favourite genres, but she has been known to dabble in Thriller, Comedy and Fantasy too.
Her debut feature script The Exquisite Taste of Miss Alice Blythe is a social satire horror feature set in Regency England. Think Bridgerton meets Get Out. Developed while she was on the London Library Emerging Writers Programme 2021-22, the screenplay since reached the finals of the Raindance Film Festival 2026 Script Competition and her pitch for the project won Raindance’s Live! Ammunition! Pitching Competition.
Ella’s TV Drama Pilot Script Bad Faith - a thriller about faith healers - won Outstanding TV Screenplay at the Screen and Story Festival 2021. She took part in the 2025 Channel 4 Screenwriting Course where she wrote Is this the end? a Comedy-Drama TV pilot about love in the time of Climate Crisis.
Ella’s work for theatre has been developed through Broken Silence Theatre’s Playwrights Hive 2021. Her play Saving Dragons - following a group of teenagers finding love and friendship through a tabletop roleplaying game - was highly commended by The National Theatre’s script readers and later in development for co-production with Theatre503.
