Jon-Alexander Genson

Wayside

2025 TV Writing Contest - Semifinalist

Jon is a Mexican-American writer from a small laketown just north of Chicago and south of Milwaukee. Being raised by a hypercritical, single Mexican immigrant mom in a working-class place like that, for as long as he can remember he's felt like a misfit, and turned to stories—mostly horror—to make sense of his fears and insecurities.

Jon served as Military Police in the U.S. Army, deploying to Guantanamo Bay before earning a BA in Creative Writing from Illinois State University. He’s an alumnus of the WGA’s Virtual Access Support Staff Training Program and the yearlong intensive Veterans Writing Project—where he's become a mentor.

Jon’s stories always stem from a personal, emotional place—i.e., the stuff that terrifies him most. Because horror didn’t just help him find his voice by embracing his otherness; it encouraged him to lean into it.

Jon was the Writers’ Assistant on the final season of CBS’s FBI: MOST WANTED—where he co-wrote his first episode—before moving on to CBS’s CIA.
