2026 Screenwriting Contest - Quarterfinalist

Kyle Casey Chu (she/her) and Róisín Isner (she/her, pronounced “Rosheen”) are a filmmaking duo from San Francisco. They became best friends in high school playing in punk bands at local dives, and began their close filmmaking partnership in 2020. Kyle is a social worker and former elementary school teacher, co-founder of Drag Story Hour, and novelist (HarperCollins, 2025). Róisín is a political organizer, amputee, and drummer/vocalist for the band Strange Men. Their scripts have earned placement in labs and fellowships including Sundance Uprise and Trans Possibilities, Lambda Literary, Film Fatales "Fatales Forward," SFFILM's FilmHouse and Rainin Filmmakers with Disabilities, and the Kenneth Rainin Arts Fellowship. Their first short film After What Happened at the Library was an official selection of ten Oscar-qualifying film festivals in 2025-2026, and won the Florida Film Festival special jury award, best narrative short at Charlotte Film Festival, and Film Pipeline. Their second short film Betty St. Clair has so far been selected at five Oscar-qualifying fests in 2026.
