Mathew is a Seattle-based screenwriter who tells scary stories, blending emotion, mystery, and the unsettling power of what’s left unsaid in the white space. His work often sits at the intersection of fear and the familiar, where ghosts and gore grow out of the slow violence of everyday life, like Toast, where a recent cancer survivor and her cowed husband must rethink their marriage after a spree killer locks down their boutique hotel; or Knockoff, in which a couple’s Christmas break becomes a minefield of gnawing uncertainty when their two children inexplicably duplicate overnight.
Mathew is Blacklist recommended and consistently places in genre competitions including Fade In, Filmmatic, BlueCat, and Stage32’s Action/Thriller contest. He holds degrees in Literature and Creative Writing from Portland State and a Master’s in Education from Seattle University. Teaching public high school, raising kids, and confronting everyday loss have only sharpened his perspective: that dread and anxiety thrive in life’s smallest corners.
