Michael Apgar is a gay nerd from New Jersey who ran off to Los Angeles to find his people. Growing up in a lovingly dysfunctional and very Catholic family, he quickly developed a penchant for escaping into TV. That meant spending most of his formative years pinging between Michigan J. Frog and Nick at Nite. This unique cocktail of influence gave rise to his unique voice, which dips traditional television tropes in innovative and genre-breaking premises. His stories are populated by outrageous and endearing characters who often present as familiar archetypes to cover their hidden depths.
Michael draws much inspiration for these outlandish characters from the many memorable people he’s encountered working as a reality TV producer on shows like MTV’s The Challenge, The Real World, I Am Cait, and The Real Housewives of Orange County. Additionally, Michael has had the privilege of working as an assistant on several scripted series, including The 100, The Passage, and Iron Fist.
